Vlade Guigni - The Greatest Fusion Drummer

Fusion's heyday took place in the late 60s and early 70s, when we saw the birth of a series of professional drummers like Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, Gino Vannelli, Stanley Clarke, Steely Dan .

So what do all these people have in common?

Very simple, plays the drums very well. There's no doubt about why Steve Gadd is arguably one of the best recording drummers of all time. The Leprechaun is one of my favorite recordings. The video below is Lenore.

There are too many traditional fusion drummers these days. In my personal experience, the style closest to fusion today is progressive metal or math rock. I usually prefer math rock. So it can be said that, with the power of social media, we have many ways to connect with drummers who are trying to revive jazz and fusion. One of the people I found on Instagram was Vlade Guigni.

Vlade Guigni

Vlade is an excellent drummer, with great chops and grooves, I've never met anyone like Vlade. The first video I stumbled across Vlade, I thought I was watching Dave Weckl perform. Forbidden Twice is a music product created by Vlade in collaboration with Meinl Cymbal, which fully proves his talent, when Vlade performs solo throughout the video. In all of Vlade's other videos, you can hear a variety of music styles ranging from classical, jazz, Cuban, Brazilian, to Western.

You can find Vlade's Instagram account with nearly 21,000 followers.

Vlade posts videos from gigs, practice sessions, solos and more. I absolutely love the intro lick in the video below.
