Assorted Guitar Key Sizes

How does key size affect your playing style?

While shopping for a guitar , you will often come across terms referring to a guitar's fret size like " jumbo fret " or " medium jumbo fret" etc.

What's the difference? Why are there different keyboard sizes?

First, let's explain these terms. When it comes to frets, we're talking thin metal bands that are spaced very precisely along the entire length of the neck; not the space between thin metal strips that your finger presses down on.

The frets are cut from frets, are produced in long rolls, and are usually made of nickel silver, an alloy that doesn't actually contain any silver. The individual frets are cut to fit the width of the guitar neck and are tapped (gently) into pre-cut slots on the keyboard. The frets run the width of the slot. The prongs on the sides help keep the frets in place in the groove, although glue is also commonly used.

The main string manufacturer, Dunlop Manufacturing Inc., based in California, manufactures five key fret sizes. Listed by part number, name (if applicable), width and height, smallest to largest:

• 6230: Smallest neck string found on previous Fender models (0.078″ x 0.043″).

• 6150: Classic Jumbo. Much wider but not as tall as 6230 (.102″ x .042″).

• 6105: Tall and narrow; currently very popular (.090″ x .055″).

• 6100: Giant (jumbo). Largest string available (.110″ x .055″).

• 6130: Average Jumbo (.106″ x .036″).

Size is purely a matter of preference, although it may affect your playing style. If you want your fingers to really touch the keys when you press the keyboard, then the not-so-high keys like the 6130, 6150 or 6230 are for you.

On the other hand, the 6100 jumbo fret string may offer easier playability with better durability, timbre and bend since you don't have to press hard to hit the strings, but your fingers may even Don't touch the keys, this can take a long time.
