Live Custom drum set made from hybrid Oak.

Yamaha has increased the dynamic range of the new Live Custom drum kit by accentuating the impact and projection of the drumhead. The drum's 7-layer oak/phenolic composite shell and Bass Enhanced Weighting deliver massive power and loud projection, especially when playing during live performances. In addition, the new finishing technique based on the traditional Japanese "UZUKURI" process emphasizes the natural beauty of the oak grain.

Drum shell is made from oak wood/phenolic plastic sheet (PAT.PEND)

The idea for the Live Custom oak shell comes from Yamaha's iconic PHX and Absolute Hybrid Maple drum set, which features a dense phenolic sheet sandwiched between two oak panels. Always a pioneer in oak drums, Yamaha has enhanced the performance of the new Live Custom drum set by accentuating the speaker's impact and projection.

UZUKURI finish coating

The traditional Japanese finishing technique "UZUKURI" has been improved for use on drum shells. In this process, soft areas in the wood grain are sanded and then the entire shell is coated with a thin layer of black paint. The entire surface of the case is then sanded again before the final coating is applied, in a process that emphasizes the natural beauty of the oak grain.

Bass Enhancement Weight (PAT.PEND)

With a design stylized around the Absolute Lug, weights placed in the bass drum at the drum's ear points dampen the low-mid frequencies, creating a tight, focused bass drum sound.

The bold silver hardware provides a striking visual and is further accentuated by the black case interior

Pure Lug

The shell has Yamaha's own pure Lug. The sophisticated design gives the drum a premium feel.

Molded bass drum hook

The bass drum has molded hooks by design, with noise cancellation through the use of an insert.

Floor Tom drum rack

The Floor Tom bracket has eared bolts. The bolt is designed to clamp firmly onto the stand without damaging the stand, saving time on stage and providing the best drum control.

YESS III Enhanced Bracket

An innovation over the YESS II m tom mount, the YESS III further reduces sound vibrations. Allowing the shell to vibrate more freely, the YESS III mounting provides more volume and more natural sustain of the shell.

2.3mm Dyna rim and Emperor drumhead

The thicker steel rim produces a tighter sound and sharper response, and the Remo Emperor floor tom has excellent deep sustain.
