PHX Series, born from Yamaha's Drum lab.

At Yamaha, the first prototype drums are the starting point for the development of future drum products. These samples are produced in the Laboratory where Yamaha continually pursues the essence of musical perfection.

In its entirely new concept, the PHX (phoenix) Series is the quintessential pinnacle of excellence in this prototype production process. Crafted by professional technicians based on 50 years of history, tradition, experience and technology.

Excellent sound.

When asked what they wanted from drums, one veteran Yamaha drummer had three requests - bigger sound, fuller tone, and more sensitivity.

So with this in mind, Yamaha pursued three goals, based on long-term research and development along with vast manufacturing experience, we decided to create an exemplary masterpiece that includes all the This request.

The result is the PHX, with the widest frequency range of any drum made by Yamaha, and with an even greater, richer mid-to-low frequency response.

Combination crust.

The unique combination enclosure is designed to perfectly achieve the three goals of the PHX concept - louder volume, more sound and wider dynamic range.

The shell uses the heaviest and hardest wood in the middle core, and the wood layers gradually become softer towards the inner and outer surfaces. This structure allows the shell to vibrate perfectly, without binding.

The bearing edge is the most important factor in creating the tone and sound output of each PHX case.

All load-bearing edges of the PHX drum are cut at a 30-degree angle. However, what makes each type of shell different - whether it's a tom, floor tom or bass drum - is the radius of the top of each bearing edge. These radii are where the drum head touches the wood of the shell, and the size of the radius allows more or less vibration to travel from the drum head to the shell.

Therefore, the edge of the bass drum produces a clearer and sharper sound, while the edge of the tom produces a fuller sound.

The load-bearing edges are shaped by craftsmen with specialized knowledge of the characteristics of each type of wood. During rounds of sanding and special finishing, each edge is gradually shaped to perfection for the drum's intended use.

Drums, toms, and loops have an important role in achieving the perfect drum sound.

PHX uses the YESSII system. for mounting toms, fits perfectly with combination shell. This system is super stable and comfortably supports the thick PHX shell while providing natural resonance, without any loss of sound quality. The mounting plate itself is made of the same Maple wood as used on the outer layers of the combination shell, further contributing to the rich and enhanced resonance in the bottom section.

The Hook Lug on the PHX is designed to occupy a small area, not disturbing the vibration of the shell and highlighting the fundamental sound. Additionally, Yamaha's unique 3.0mm aluminum die-cast ring is highly rigid and extremely light in weight, helping to maximize head-end resonance, and produce a rich, melodic tone with full attack. enough.

From the choice of outer shell, which includes traditional Maple or beautifully textured Ash - the customer's top choices, the decision-making process begins. The shell is painted and sanded multiple times, then polished to the maximum to achieve a beautiful thinness with extreme hardness, bringing out the beauty and depth of the selected exterior veneer.

In addition, a specially prepared structural finish using ash wood is used exclusively for the PHX product line. This special cover is less than half the thickness of a traditional cover, bringing out the beautiful grain of the ash wood while still allowing the cover to provide full vibration.

Furthermore, Hook Lugs and aluminum die-cast rings are available in exclusive chrome or gold that match or contrast the case perfectly.

Vent.

The number of vents on the drum shell affects both the timbre and sound projection of the drum. PHX drums are designed with one to ten vents, depending on the size of the drum. By varying the number of vents, especially on larger shells, the sustain length of the drum, midrange bass level and playing comfort can all be fine-tuned.

YESSII

The YESSII drum shell mounting system functions as a shock mount for the PHX drum, allowing for optimal drum shell vibration.

Using a unique rubber backing and a Maple mounting plate, the YESSII system is mounted at the nodal points of each drum shell where the least amount of vibration occurs. This allows the resonance to be retained inside the case, rather than being transmitted through the hardware and muffled.

In larger sized toms, rubber inserts are also placed on the shell where overdrive is less desirable, so a proper blend of damping and overdrive control is achieved. Can be adjusted to fit the shell.

Hook Lug.

The Hook Lugs system used for the PHX line of drums evolved from the Yamaha Nouveau Lug, which was an innovation in drum design. This new design minimizes drum shell rotation during adjustment, and securely supports the bearing bar, even at high tensions.

Instead of placing the Hook Lug at the nodal point, Yamaha places it in the shell area that produces less desirable overdrive sounds, thereby suppressing this sound and allowing for an unobstructed, rich base sound. richer.

3.0mm cast aluminum ring.

The aluminum die-cast rings are designed and manufactured through an original process developed by Yamaha. The 3.0mm aluminum die-cast ring offers precise adjustment thanks to its rigidity, resulting from the unique casting process, and its light weight due to the aluminum material itself. While a normal die-cast zinc ring is heavy and suppresses vibration at the top end, Yamaha's lightweight ring design produces a rich, melodic sound with moderate attack, without suppressing vibration at the top. first part.
