- Expanded internal memory

The SPD-SX Special Edition is designed with professional performers in mind, with expandable memory supporting up to 50 hours of sample storage. The original has 4GB of internal storage, which can limit the number of samples you can incorporate into your performance. This special edition expands the memory from 4GB to 16GB, eliminating the need for any external storage like flash drives. New, expanded storage means you can expand your performances. Now you have the ability to store everything you need for complex live sets. This special edition model also has a USB memory port, allowing you to import audio files directly from a USB flash drive, should you need any more storage.

- Pads with LED illumination, sensitive to player speed

Designed for professional musicians (especially drummers and percussionists), the SPD-SX Special Edition features nine drum pads that are sensitive to player velocity. These pads are also LED-illuminated, allowing you to easily see your drum pad, even in low-light situations like onstage. The pads are arranged in an ergonomic layout, creating a feeling of ease and convenience for players.

- Multi-Pad Sampling

One of the most unique and convenient features of the SPD-SX sampler plate, is the ability to capture samples in real time. The Multi-Pad function can be used to sample audio from an external music player or computer. While using the Audio input or the USB jack, you can play audio directly and hit each key at the beginning and the end. This results in the pattern being truncated and assigned to the pad you pressed. This easy-to-use real-time sampling function means you can capture your inspiration in no time.

- Three multi-effects processors

The Roland SPD-SX-SE has three built-in multi-effect groups: one master group and two groups assigned to each kit. The master effects group gives you instant DJ-like control using the dedicated controls on the front panel. The filter, delay, short looper, and user-assignable effects are all manually adjustable with four buttons on the front panel and two custom buttons.

In addition to offering expandable memory, this version of the SPD-SX boasts an eye-catching, sparkling red finish. This unique red shell not only stands out from the crowd, but also helps differentiate between different models. The layout of the LED display is bright and clear, giving you information about the patterns, settings, styles, and tempos being used. There's also a bunch of dedicated buttons and controls for navigating through settings and more. The sampling pad also features a versatile range of connections, including MIDI I/O, Audio Input, and even the included Line/Mic gain control. A headphone output is also included for private listening and more. Additionally, the SPD-SX Special Edition comes with a copy of Ableton Live Lite and Wave Manager software, to expand your samples and effects.
