The MODX audio engine is based on the same technology that powers the flagship MONTAGE: AWM2 (Advanced Wave Memory 2) sampling and synthesis engine and a pure FM-X (Frequency Modulation) music synthesizer Modernized for superb audio playback and sophisticated sound design.
AWM2.
Unique to Yamaha music synthesizers, the AWM2 engine offers more capabilities than just sample playback. Each of the 16 AWM2 parts features eight fully programmable synthesizers plus filters (18 different types!) amplitude, pitch and filter coverage generators, nine LFOs, 3-band EQ and dedicated dual insert effects with Virtual Circuitry Modeling.
FM-X.
FM-X is a wonderfully sophisticated pure synthesizer capable of creating classic '80s sounds or modern EDM sounds with incredible dynamic range, power and fidelity. MODX features an 8-operator FM architecture and 64-note polyphony, providing a plethora of sound design options.
THE COMPLEX HAS A TOTAL OF 192 MUSIC NOTES.
MODX has 128-note stereo AWM2 polyphony and 64-note FM-X polyphony. Due to the unique architecture of MODX and MONTAGE, this polyphony is always available without latency or interference with other features.
SSS (Seamless Audio Transfer).
Seamless Sound Switching (SSS) lets you change performances seamlessly without breaking coverage or effects. This capability is perfect for live performances, where you end one song and start another without stopping.

MODX includes 1 GB of lossless user flash memory with high-speed read/write capabilities for your custom samples or compilation libraries from yamahamusicsoft.com.
EFFECT.
From high-definition reverbs to incredibly detailed Virtual Circuit Modeling (VCM) effects, MODX is loaded with DSP innovation, power and most importantly, sound quality. Use effects like Beat Repeat, Vinyl Break or Bit Crusher to get EDM sounds. The Spiral Effect creates the auditory illusion of a sound continuously increasing or decreasing in pitch without getting higher or lower.
You can even add a compressor with the sidechain to get a modern "ducking" effect. Or relive classic effects like Analog Delay, VCM Phaser or a variety of amplifier simulators. Pianists will appreciate piano-focused effects like Damper Resonance for a hyper-realistic piano experience and HD reverb that lets you position yourself in any performance space.
A/D INPUT.
Combined with two A/D inputs, MODX is the perfect addition to any professional recording studio or live computer set.
SIDECHAIN.
Automatically control the dynamic behavior of one part from another part. Sidechains are very popular in modern dance music, where a pad or other sustain is "locked" to the kick drum. When the kick drum plays, the sound dips into the sustain and creates a "pumping" rhythm effect.
MULTI-CHANNEL AUDIO USB COMMUNICATION.
As expected for modern computer-based music production, MODX features a professional 4-in/10-out multi-channel USB audio interface. A single cable connection replaces the need for external audio communication. Compatible with iOS.

Motion Sequences are fully customizable and tempo-synchronized control sequences that can be assigned to virtually any music synthesizer parameter and provide incredible new ways of creating sounds.
Motion sequences also feature dedicated controls on the front panel for easy manipulation and real-time changes, providing incredible interactivity and expression.
ENVELOPE FOLLOWER.
Envelope Follower converts audio into a control source to control virtually any parameter of the music synthesizer. For example, a drum loop can dictate effect parameters for a great beat, or a recording can control multiple parameters for a synthesizer to "speak". Audio can even be a "live" source via the A/D input.
AUDIO BEAT SYNC.
ABS (Audio Beat Sync) detects beats and an external device such as an electronic drum kit, drum machine or audio player plugged into the A/D input and synchronizes the MODX Arpeggiator, Motion Sequencer or Song follows the tempo of external input. The MODX music synthesizer "listens" to live music and plays it over time.
CUBASE AI PACKAGE.
MODX is packaged with Cubase AI, Steinberg's professional music production application, providing integrated recording and editing capabilities.
