Lowden 35 Series - F Body Shapes - Ebony Back & Side - Sinker Redwood Top.
The pride of Northern Ireland guitar making explores new sounds with exotic combinations of woods.
For guitarists looking for delicate and expressive instruments with sparkling timbre, this would be a strong contender.
Many describe the past three decades as the golden age of acoustic guitar production. The fruitful period was characterized not only by the evolution of the tonal qualities and response of the instrument, but also by the discovery of alternative tonal woods by luthiers and players alike.
About 15 years ago, it was common for people who bought custom guitars to choose eye-catching woods. This led luthiers to explore some unlikely combinations of body materials.
Lowden offers legendary wood combinations on its 35 series. Here we have the F model, finished with the ultimate AAAA grade Ebony, elegantly paired with Sinker Redwood.
As an all-rounder, the F model is built to scale 650mm with a 402mm bottom, and Lowden has softened the body depth of 120mm with a Kevin Ryan-style forearm bevel.
The neck is Lowden's standard: 5-piece construction in Mahogany, Rosewood and laminated Walnut, Gold Gotoh 510 clef. The front and back of the neck are covered in Ebony.
The neck itself is a delight for both fingerstyle and flatpicking players, with its expertly carved C-shape and distinctive contour along the length of the keyboard.
The distance between the strings in the nut and the saddle is well-rated for all styles, and the all-important spacing between the outer strings and the outer edge of the neck means you can complete the technique. vibrates and bends without slipping off the neck.
Sinker Redwood takes its name from the very log that has spent more than a century on the bottom of the California River, soaking up alluvium from the mineral-rich water. The nature of Sinker Redwood can make for an extremely fast initial response but can also make the guitar particularly sensitive to high-frequency noise, such as strings and fingering.
The characteristic of Sinker Redwood top is that it creates a distinct bloom for each note. The F-35 sounds full and rich even when played lightly with bare fingers.
