About Remo
After World War II, the founder of Remo Inc., Remo D. Belli, experimented with PET film as a new material option for drum heads. At the time, this idea was rejected by many drummers because they liked the sound of the calfskin heads that were dominating the market at the time. However, there are some problems with calfskin heads, such as their frequent need for tuning, so Remo Belli went to address these issues and create a convenient solution for drummers. . Using Mylar, a synthetic polyester film for drum heads, Belli was able to replicate the look of the calfskin head, in white and opaque. Later developments of these drumheads including clear heads, double-layer heads and natural simulated heads (Fiberskyn) are still very popular among many modern drummers. Remo D. Belli passed away in April 2016, however, the company continues to lead the drum production industry, supplying drumheads to a wide range of drum manufacturers including Pearl, Yamaha, Mapex, DW Drums and many other manufacturers.
