MODX+ uses the same technology used for the flagship MONTAGE series: 128 notes of the AWM2 (Advanced Wave Memory 2) model and synthesizer polyphony to simulate beautiful instrument sounds, synth sounds and drums .
MODX+ also features 128-note FM-X (Frequency Modulation) polyphony - a unique, expressive, highly programmable synthesis technology for dynamic music creation, in the style of modern electronic music.
AWM2
The AWM2 engine is specific to Yamaha synthesizers and has more features than just sample playback. Each of the 16 AWM2 Parts features eight programmable synthesizers with 18 different filter types, amplitude, pitch and filter envelope generators, nine LFOs, 3-band EQ and a dedicated dual insert effect with Virtual circuit model.
FM-X
Everything you love about the DX7 has been combined with Yamaha's latest innovations. The FM-X produces classic 1980s synth or modern EDM sounds with incredible dynamic range, power and fidelity. MODX+ goes beyond the capabilities of the original DX7 series with an 8-operator FM structure, 128-note polyphony, a variety of filters and more. All with Motion Control to get textures that change and move continuously, creating sounds no one has ever heard before.
SMART MORPH
Smart Morph allows switching between FM-X sounds. Sophisticated AI algorithms create an interactive transition map from up to eight FM-X sounds. You can "draw" this map from the touch screen or use the Super Knob to move between two points. The result is a wealth of exciting new interactive sounds.
COMPREHENSIVE COMPLEXITY 256 NOTES
MODX+ features 128-note AWM2 stereo polyphony and 128-note FM-X polyphony. Due to the special structure of MODX+ and MONTAGE, this polyphony is always available without delay or interference with other features.
Integrated flash memory
Save music in a flash. MODX+ features 1.75GB of low latency, non-volatile consumer flash memory with high read/write speeds for you to create your own custom samples or synth libraries.
EFFECT
MODX+ is packed with innovative DSP, power and sound quality to bring you everything from high-definition reverb to detailed Virtual Circuit Modeling (VCM) effects. Create EDM sounds with effects like Beat Repeat, Vinyl Break or Bit Crusher. Use the Spiralizer effect to create the audio illusion of a tone continuously rising or falling in pitch.
Add a compressor with sidechain for a modern "ducking" effect. Or go retro with old-school effects like Analog Delay, VCM Phaser or various Amplifier Simulators.
Pianists will feel like they're in heaven, or in some other magical performance space, with piano-centric effects like Damper Resonance and HD reverb for an incredibly realistic piano playing experience. .
A/D input
Stereo A/D inputs let you bring external sources such as analog synthesizers, vocals or other instruments into the MODX+ motion control system. That means MODX+'s control goes far beyond simple onboard effects processing. Control individual parameters with the on-board joystick buttons or use MODX+'s Motion Control "invisible hand". Add the Vocoder, Envelope Follower and Auto Beat Sync features and you'll feel like the A/D input on the MODX+ becomes an instrument itself.
Sidechain
Sidechain is a popular effect in modern dance music in which a pad or other long sustain is "latched" to the kick drum. When playing the kick drum, it drowns out the sustain to create a "push" beat effect.

SOUNDMONDO
Soundmondo is a music sharing social network that allows you to store and recall MODX+ and MONTAGE Presentations and share them with other users. DAW integration
MODX+ Connect is a convenient tool for you to transfer data back and forth between your computer and the MODX+ keyboard. Track data created on MODX+ can be transferred to a computer, and Presentation data edited on MODX+ can be saved as a file (.X7B) on a computer.
MODX+ Connect, based on VST3 Steinberg technology, works as a VST3 plug-in with the Cubase family. MODX+ Connect works like other VST instrument software, allowing you to save MODX+'s edited settings, or use them for another project.
MODX+ Connect also works as an AU plugin. For AU-compatible DAW software, refer to the separate Release Notice.
The application can also be used as standalone software.

SUPER KNOB
Super Knob has the role of shaping the sound like a conductor in an orchestra. It directs individual dynamic elements to create a single piece of music. Like a conductor, Super Knob can distinguish between one player turning up while another player turns down. You can change the shape of the note from long to short, light to dark, or move the player directly to your right to the back of the auditorium.
Super Knob allows simultaneous control of 128 parameters in one Presentation. This means you can control multiple functions like volume, pan, and effects sends, as well as detailed synth stats like filters, LFOs, and Manipulators.
It's those 128 parameters... AT THE SAME TIME!
You can even control the Super Knob with the FC7 control pedal, making it easy to adjust the sound while you're playing with both hands.
CHAIN OF MOTION
Motion Sequences are fully customizable and tempo-synchronized control sequences that can be assigned to virtually any music synthesizer parameter and provide incredible new ways of creating sounds.
Motion sequences also feature dedicated controls on the front panel for easy manipulation and real-time changes, providing incredible interactivity and expression.
ENVELOPE FOLLOWER
Envelope Follower converts audio into a control source to control virtually any synthesizer parameter. For example, a drum loop can control effect parameters to create novel rhythms, or a vocal recording can control various parameters of a "talking" synthesizer. Audio can even be a "live" source via the A/D input.
Audio Beat Sync
Audio Beat Sync (ABS) detects beats and external devices such as electronic drum kits, drum machines or sound generators plugged into the A/D input and synchronizes Arpeggios, Motion Sequencers or Tracks to the beat level of external input.
