The Martin D19 190th guitar is a release to commemorate the 190th anniversary of the day Martin opened the world's first guitar workshop in New York.
"190 years ago, on November 6, my great-grandfather and great-grandmother and their two children arrived in New York City from Germany. They came to America in search of opportunity and freedom. They initially settled at 196 Hudson Street and opened the first Martin Guitar studio here. I was looking for a way for us to celebrate this milestone. In 1976 (our country's founding anniversary), we introduced D-19. It's designed like a luxury D-18. We stained the top to take advantage of the already aesthetically challenged Spruce. A guarantee of sustainability I think It would be appropriate to drop the D-19 model designation and create 190 modern D-19s to honor our 190th anniversary. This model also embraces sustainability by using a flat tabletop Aesthetically challenged Adirondack spruce that we have had in stock for a while We sent them through the Mimaki print shop to create a beautifully shaped Mahogany grain top like it." - CF Martin IV
