The perfect balance of rich, warm, crisp and powerful sound, the S7X offers limitless expressive possibilities for the discerning player. Suitable for halls and recital rooms.
Inspiration has a new sound.
The high-end SX series has a luxurious, powerful sound suitable for the size of the guitar. Yamaha's unique Acoustic Resonance Enhancement technology and various innovations, such as newly designed hammers, combine with traditional craftsmanship for greater range and richer tones. The sound has exceptional depth and warmth - inspiring the most demanding performers and satisfying them with their refined artistry.
A new way to achieve timeless resonance.
When you think of a Stradivarius, you think of a rich, mellow tone that resonates further with each passing year. What if you could bring that same timeless sound to a concert piano? Yamaha has found a way. Our ARE (Acoustic Resonance Enhancement) treatment imbues the wood used in the rims with the sonic characteristics of a beloved classical instrument. In SX Series pianos, this effect is very pronounced. You'll be enveloped in richly expressive sounds with beautiful long-lasting resonances.
RIM.
For the SX Series' inner and outer rims, Yamaha's craftsmen carefully selected woods based on their acoustic properties. During construction, they reduced the number of layers of glue, using wood that is 30% thicker than the predecessor S Series pianos, to bring out the inherent resonance of that wood. This approach shaped the sonic character of the SX Series, adding richness, clarity and thickness to the bass and midranges, while retaining a warm, inviting overall tone.
HAMMER.
To create the ideal sound, one of the most important factors is that the hammer must complement the body of the piano. The SX series uses a special hammer seal made from a newly developed formula. Yamaha tested countless prototypes in its quest to find the right material for this piano. The excellent elasticity of this hammer seal allows the player to achieve beautifully bright and clear tones, along with balanced density throughout the range from bass to treble. Players will enjoy the artistic freedom and expressive nuance that the SX Series offers.
REAR STRUCTURE BAR.
The high forces exerted when playing fortissimo passages at very high volumes can cause the back frame to flex slightly and lose energy. To withstand such forces and effectively transform them into highly resonant sounds, the piano must have a sturdy back frame. Compared to its predecessor S Series pianos, the back frame of the SX Series is approximately 20% thicker. The additional support of this frame creates a stronger body and reduces unwanted vibrations. The SX series is built from the bottom up to create a strong and stable base for authentic music creation.
RESONANCE PANEL.
Like the violin, the piano is a symphony of delicate curves. But arguably the most important curve on a piano is the one you often don't notice - the convex part of the soundboard called the crown. The crown's job is to effectively transmit the string vibrations from the soundboard into the surrounding environment.
Yamaha piano engineers have leveraged generations of know-how and craftsmanship to create a soundboard that vibrates easily and achieves powerful projection. In creating the SX Series, Yamaha borrowed the techniques used with the flagship CFX to attach the soundboard, ribs, and bridge. Once mounted, the soundboard is carefully assembled onto the piano body, where it will reflect beautiful sounds to any concert venue.
Made from carefully selected strong European Spruce wood, the SX Series soundboard is built to withstand pressure and retain its shape. Throughout its lifespan, this soundboard promises to deliver rich overtones, low decay, and a variety of expressive, brilliant tones.
GUITAR STRING.
Winding piano strings by hand is an extremely demanding job and can only be done by veteran professionals. When wrapping pure copper strings around a steel string core, Yamaha's craftsmen must delicately adjust the balance and tension of the strings. Hand-wound piano strings are flexible and produce overtones that are in better harmony with the fundamental frequencies. As a result, you will enjoy beautifully resonant sound with ear-pleasing overtones.
DESIGN.
The SX Series' modern, simple design and graceful curves embody an elegant and expressive sound. Taking the essence of its predecessor the S Series and enhancing it with practical innovations, the SX Series takes its place on the stage as a truly contemporary piano.
